The Univo IBC Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Charter outlines the policies, structure, and responsibilities guiding Univo IBC’s biosafety review services. Designed to align with NIH Guidelines and best practices in biosafety and biosecurity, this document serves as the foundational guide for both Univo IBC members and institutional research teams.

This Charter is reviewed and adopted by each new IBC roster, fulfills NIH Section IV-B-2-a(5) requirements, and includes detailed information on:

  • The types of research that require IBC review (e.g., recombinant DNA, gene therapy, dual use research, and select agents)
  • Roles and responsibilities for institutions, PIs, biosafety officers, and IBC members
  • Review procedures, quorum definitions, training standards, and membership requirements
  • Site visit expectations, annual reviews, incident reporting, and meeting transparency
  • How Univo supports institutions with externally administered IBC services

Whether you’re a PI, sponsor, or biosafety officer, it’s your go-to reference for understanding how Univo IBC ensures safe, compliant, and ethical research oversight.
